My son recently enjoyed a cooking lesson with Grandma… A simple overnight recipe for the dough and choose your own toppings led to a very yummy result!
Ingredients for Dough: (makes four 14 inch pizza crusts)
7 generous cups of flour
4 tsp fine sea salt
1/2 tsp active dry yeast
3 cups water
Mix all ingredients together with a wooden spoon. Then, with your hands, gently mix and and form into a ball. Place in a large bowl and let rise overnight (can rise up to 18 hours).
When you are ready to bake, divide the dough into fourths and place on greased pizza pans.
Spread out dough as much as you can, let rest a minute and then spread one more time. Do not work the dough too much or it will not rise as it is baking.
For a crisper crust, after you spread out the dough, bake for about five minutes at 500 degrees before adding toppings. When the dough is spread out, then you are ready to add your toppings. These are some of our favorites; pepperoni (or turkey pepperoni), tomatoes, sausage, mushrooms and other vegetables. We like to use a mix of cheeses, today was mozzarella, asiago and parmesan.
Spread the sauce evenly across each pizza crust, layer with cheese and toppings as desired. Bake at 475 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is golden brown.
Yum, slice and enjoy! We usually have pizza on Friday nights at our house. Great for a slumber party or gathering of friends; everyone can choose their own toppings or you can make mini-pizzas for everyone. Have fun!
