Recently, we have been having such a time getting my seven-year old (almost eight, he keeps reminding me!) to remember to brush his teeth!! Every time I would ask him he would say, “I forgot!” Well, you can only “forget ” so many times…before you need dentures! Right?
I tried several things, that did not help, to get him to remember. But I think I have, finally, found the solution…for now anyway!
This boy is, SERIOUSLY, into Legos. So I decided to use that as leverage.
I created a ticket that he could only receive each day if his teeth were brushed. So now if he wants to build with Legos each day, he has to have the ticket in his possession. He only gets that ticket if it has been verified that his teeth are brushed. Then each evening after he brushes his teeth again, he needs to return the ticket to me. If I don’t get it back in the evening, then I know his teeth were not brushed and there are no Legos for the next day. A mom’s gotta do, what a mom’s gotta do..!
I made the ticket nice and big so it’s not easy to lose and I laminated it…mostly just because I love my laminator…yup, I’m a total nerd like that.
So far, so good…

Love this idea by the way. My son is 7 also, will be 8 on the 1st March. and he always seems to ‘forget’ to brush his teeth. He is obsessed with lego too, so this idea is just perfect for him, thank you.

I LOVE this idea! Thanks for sharing! I am going to use this with my 7 year old too, and I may even see if my 3 yr old can do it too! Awesome!
What a great idea to remember! I am coming over from a blog hop and I would love if you stopped by

Love it! I think I may have to steal this idea and make a little sign for our 3 year old… well and me too. I’m awful at remembering to brush his teeth before daycare (I know, I know…), I’ve got some gears turning on how to encorporate a toothbrush, and Toy Story characters.
Thanks for the inspiration! Found you from More the Merrier Monday.
ahhhh now that is creative! Love the idea and thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness, if that’s not the cutest picture of him holding that sign! This is a great idea, and you’re a good mama for thinking up something that creative.
