Recently, we have been having such a time getting my seven-year old (almost eight, he keeps reminding me!) to remember to brush his teeth!! Every time I would ask him he would say, “I forgot!” Well, you can only “forget ” so many times…before you need dentures! Right?
I tried several things, that did not help, to get him to remember. But I think I have, finally, found the solution…for now anyway!
This boy is, SERIOUSLY, into Legos. So I decided to use that as leverage. I created a ticket that he could only receive each day if his teeth were brushed. So now if he wants to build with Legos each day, he has to have the ticket in his possession. He only gets that ticket if it has been verified that his teeth are brushed. Then each evening after he brushes his teeth again, he needs to return the ticket to me. If I don’t get it back in the evening, then I know his teeth were not brushed and there are no Legos for the next day. A mom’s gotta do, what a mom’s gotta do..!
I made the ticket nice and big so it’s not easy to lose and I laminated it…mostly just because I love my laminator…yup, I’m a total nerd like that.
So far, so good…
