31 Days of Homemade Holidays! Day 2: Apple Holder

Oct 01, 2012 Categories: 31 Days of Homemade Holidays, Decorating, Kids

Day 2 of our Homemade Holidays series!  Today’s project:  Cozy little apple and pumpkin holders for protecting fruit in a packed lunch or for just looking cute, on the table or in a basket!

Apple Holder Supplies: Red, orange and green felt, elastic cord, needle and thread, small hole punch, scissors, marker, paper plate

First, trace the paper plate onto the red and orange felt and cut out the circles.

Next, with a small hole punch, make punches all the way around the circles about an inch apart.  If you don’t have a small hole punch, just make tiny slits with your scissors.

Then, take the elastic cord and weave it through the punched holes.  Also, cut one leaf shape and one stem shape from the green felt.  Use your needle and thread to sew the leaf on the red circle and the stem on the orange circle.

When that is done, pull the elastic to gather up the sides of the holders.

Place an apple inside and gather the sides relatively tight around the fruit.  Tie off the knot and tuck inside.  There you have it!  A cozy little fruit protector and fall decoration!
